Hi, I’m Nettie David—an author, mom, preparedness advocate, and blogger from Idaho.
The idea for my children’s book Sammy and Evie Run from a Storm began during an ordinary family trip. While teaching my kids how to pack, I wondered if I could turn the process into a fun rhyme or song that helped children everywhere learn how to prepare for emergencies. That simple thought sparked a story—and a mission.
As a longtime emergency preparedness blogger (since 2014), I’ve seen how having a plan can dissolve fear. I wanted to give families a gentle, reassuring way to talk about safety—through rhythm, rhyme, and story.
When I first wrote Sammy and Evie Run from a Storm, it was a handmade, seven-page book I shared with my children. They loved it so much that I kept adding pages—until it became a full 32-page picture book. Their encouragement and excitement inspired me to publish it and share it with other families.
My stories are designed for blending comfort and learning with colorful illustrations and memorable rhymes. I hope each book gives parents and teachers a way to start conversations about preparedness in a calm, kid-friendly way.
When I’m not writing, you’ll find me visiting national parks, reading with my family, or playing board games with friends.
Through every story and blog post, my goal is to help families feel capable and connected—no matter what storms may come.
